I REMEMBER BHOPAL GAS TRAGEDY
The students had a meeting with Shahnawaz Khan, advocate and social activist, who briefed them about the tragedy and the steps taken by the the government to treat the victims. Besides, Moti Singh, the collector and Dr.Ajay Khare shared their experience and informed the students about the measures which they took in that state of emergency. According to them, the impact would not have been so devastating if the safety systems in the Union Carbide factory were working properly and if the right antidote was given to the people to counter the effects of the poisonous gas, methyl isocyanate (MIC) that spewed from the factory premises.
There was a peaceful procession and lighting of candles by students in memory of those who died in the tragedy. The students also participated in a rally where they interacted with the victims.
